When did you attend Priory?
1959-1966
Who was your most unforgettable teacher?
Mrs Hernould: Was probably the nicest, most gentle teacher at Priory.
Mrs Fowler: The meanest teacher, but I remember Ian Isaacs' antics -
embarrassed about having to annunciate the syllable "fuc" in front of the
class, gave her such a smack with his ruler while she was bent over helping
another student -- right on her backside. The sound was so loud that he was
expelled for three days. But it was priceless to watch. Only in Jamaica.
Another fading memory involving Ian Isaacs and backsides: Ian and I were
swashbuckling with Poinciana pods, and Kim Curtis (whom I liked at the time)
ratted us out for "fighting", so the nameless teacher made me bend over in
front of the class (with Kim smirking in the front row), which made my face
go as red as my backside.
Ian Isaacs Mrs. Fowler
Who were your best friends at Priory?
Simon
Hernould, Simon Blake, Ian Isaacs, Dimitri Sleem, Ofer Zusmanovith, Philip
Trench, Susan Douthwaite, Emily Jenkinson, Kim Curtis, Roslyn Gould (I
wish), Keith Slater (actually he was my brother Hugh's friend).
Who are you in touch with now
Simon Hernould, Malcolm Hernould, Susan Douthwaite
Who would you like to trace if you could?
Kim Curtis,
Roslyn Gould, Mrs Hernould (to say thanks for having faith in us), Miss Lou
(thanks for all those donuts and tamarind balls).
What was the wildest thing you did at Priory?
Threw up on Emily Jenkinson, involuntarily. Oh, one other thing: I fell for Susan Douthwaites' and Emily Jenkinson's stunt: "show me yours and we will show you ours". I upheld my part of the bargain (so to speak, although at that age it didn't need holding), but felt totally ripped off when they ran away laughing, saying "there's nothing to see!" I am waiting for the right moment to get revenge on Susan Douthwaite!
Who was the craziest person during your time at Priory?
Ian Isaacs: for smacking Mrs Fowler on her backside with his ruler -- full force.
Where do you live and what do you do now?
I live in Vancouver, Canada, but I do most of my work in the Caribbean - eradicating poverty - with organizations like the UNDP, CIDA, CDB, EU
Tell us about any significant others
I married Donna McClure in 1990, after years of long distance relationships with her living in France or Toronto and me in the Caribbean or Ottawa. Now she is eradicating poverty in Vancouver's downtown east side, and I am still trying to eradicate poverty in the Caribbean.
What do you think of the think of site?
Great site. Photos of Kim Curtis and Roslynd Gould?
